The great thing is that there's already such place. It's called IRC where
the channel populated by Ruby freaks is #ruby-lang (at least on IRCnet).

Nevertheless, subscribing and skipping/deleting uninteresting threads
shouldn't be too big job (or one might consider changing MUA). One way is to
send messages to the list (or news) and track replies with blade (the
mailing list archive) keeping eye only on the thread you initated.
