They are a business. They don't get to stay in business unless revenues 
exceed expenses. Microsoft is unlikely to subsidize them forever. Most 
likely they are using such pages as you read to prospect for more business 
(among other things).

In any case, Komodo is supposed to be released as open source any 
(unspecified) day now. AFAIK, the first essential piece of work for 
Ruby-izing Komodo is to produce Mozilla XPCOM bindings for Ruby, if you 
are feeling ambitious.
