Hi All, Ruby newbie here (that has a nice ring to it, eh?). We've got a Java application that has, in addition to a GUI, a a primitive command-line interface. It's intentionally primitive, as we generally planned to put a real scripting language in someday. We'd generally thought we'd stick TCL or one of the "java shell" things in there. However, as I'm now a Ruby Expert (having just purchased a copy of "Programming Ruby"), I'm wondering about sticking Ruby in as the extension language. A quick google search for "Java Ruby" showed sever Japanese pages (useless to me, alas), but no Englinsh language sites that seem to show that this kind of thing has been done. Seems feasible to me, comments? I guess the strategy would be to fire up the JVM, then fire up a Ruby interpreter via JNI, giving Ruby enough context to invoke the appropriate Java class methods. Comments? Cheers, --Bob Sent via Deja.com http://www.deja.com/ Before you buy.
