For starters, I'm running XEmacs 21.1 on Windows 2000. I'm more new to emacs
than Ruby (which means I'm REALLY new to emacs :), and I can't get syntax
highlighting to work with the ruby mode. I've modified my .emacs file to
include the necessary lines, and, indeed, the mode line says Ruby when I
load a .rb file.

Unfortunately, though, all my code is still black. If I look in the
'Options'->'Syntax Highlighting' menu, 'Automatic' is selected. If I select
'In this Buffer' as well, strings in the ruby file become highlighted, and
that's it.

I'm being swallowed by the vertical learning curve! One of the primary
reasons I've gone to emacs is the syntax highlighting (I'm sure there are
other reasons, but that's my killer app), and I'm tempted to go back to the
dark side (PFE, which is not very far up the chain from the dreaded
Notepad). Any help will be greatly appreciated.

TIA,

Nathaniel
