 bdb-0.3.9 was released it contain the first beta interface to DB XML, see

   http://moulon.inra.fr/ruby/bdbxml.html

 This interface (bdbxml) must be build with DB 4.1.25 and DB XML 1.0.7
 (beta release actually for DB XML).
