:) I think Seattle to Japan is less than half
the Earth's circumference... so there is no
contest.

If we're talking east coast of the USA, that
is different.

I have nothing against Europeans. Even the French
I have found to be friendly as long as you make
the effort to speak their language rather than
just assuming they know English, which they do
but won't always admit to. I met a few crusty,
hostile people over there, but once I spoke a
few words of French, from my limited vocabulary,
the most hard-bitten individual immediately
loosened up and answered politely in English.

But as for Hawaii: There is a certain appeal to
sun and sand and temperate weather. And I harbor
a prejudice that grass skirts look better on
young Polynesian women than, say, Maggie Thatcher.

How are the Finnish beaches? In November?
