I have downloaded Ruby for use on my Windows NT4 SP4 PC. I have downloaded
Cygwin separately, and placed cygwin1.dll into my winnt\system32 directory. I
have tried various settings for RUBYLIB; none seem to make a difference. :-(

>>Ruby -v<< returns >>ruby 1.4.0 (1999-08-13) [i386-cygwin]<<

When I type >>ruby -le 'print "Hello world\n"'<<, I get >>ruby:0: Can't mktemp
(fatal)<<

I've never installed a language like Ruby before (i.e. Perl, Python, etc), and
have no experience of the UNIX way of building the source code to get an
executable. I have read the readme files that came with the download, but can
find nothing that seems to apply. I am not even certain that I've got the right
version of Ruby. Can someone give me a little help on how to proceed? TIA.

[P.S. I posted a message like this to comp.lang.ruby, but got no response. :-( ]
