I don't see how the case of

"If my translation should be retranslated and return to the USA that
returning version will be a free one"

helps with

the "difficulties Dave is struggling with now!"

If anything, it makes it more difficult for him to negotiate for any
future use of an open license.

Be sensitive on the licensing issue.  Dave's 'baby' is only one year
old.
