Though it may or may not help you I have a jail with the rails stack
installed with rvm using clang on FreeBSD 9.x without issue. Though I
didn't have issues with 1.9.2 on 8.x

Since your system is hanging in the checking stage it most likely not
an issue with ruby. You may want to ask upstream with the PC-BSD folks
and look further there.

Also since you didn't actually post an error it really is not that
helpful to post just the compiler dump where no error message is
recieved. Save some bandwidth and post your uname instead.
