I tried playing with Code Chef a few years ago but eventually gave up:
1) It doesn't show you a list of what problems you have and haven't solved
2) I had a lot of trouble getting Ruby to work there
3) Even getting Java to work was a PITA
4) The problems are biased for languages like C (data formats, for example)
5) The limits are strict such that you end up having to write bad code in
the name of optimization
