SWIG is more than that; it's also a good way of abstracting away all the
wrapping of your C++ classes.  If I want to switch to Perl or Scheme
tomorrow, and I have used SWIG to wrap my classes, then I can do that
with minimal changes.  If I wrapped my classes using the Ruby C API,
then I will have a long day ahead of me.
