Hi,

This code will convert an array of characters to a string:

    a = [?a, ?b, ?c]
    s = ''
    for c in a
      s << c
    end

While it works, it isn't fast, in fact, it is *slow*.

Is there a better way? Neither join nor to_s do what I need since they both
give "979899" rather than "abc".

BTW, is "979899" a useful result for anyone? I suppose this is the answer
because ruby cannot distinguish a character from a fixnum and it just called
to_s on a number.

Thanks,
Bob
