Not at all, good mnemonic, occurred to me, too. Probably how it got
picked!

But 1.~3 or 1.!3 (depending on what Ruby considers "not") would have
been an excellent choices. Then you could also have 1~.3 or 1!.3 and
1~~3 or 1!!3.
