The current Gtk textbox widget is, I believe, fairly spartan.  Tk's text
widget supports at least some level of formatted text, embedded pixmaps,
etc.  The Gtk 2 text widget will be far more powerful than the current
one (see

) , but right now I'd have to recommend Tk.
