Can you post your code?

Generally, programs requiring user interaction do not work well in
programs like SCiTE and should be run from the command line.

Here is an example of using gets:
puts "What is your favorite color?"
color = gets
if gets == "red"
  puts "that's mine too!"
else
  puts "bad choice..."
end
