This list has a permathread of "python v. ruby", and for the most part people are simply told to try both and see what makes you most happy. That's not to say there aren't some people who prefer to attempt nasty smack-downs, but they are in the minority. You can't just count the number of ranting pro-ruby posts; you also have to see if they aren't all coming from the same 2 or 3 people.
