It seems to be the closest thing to a consumer-grade desktop in Linux world, which is a good thing because you will not spend as much time as with some other distros to make network, sound drivers and printers work. Ubuntu doesn't compromise the benefits that you get from Linux as a developer, either. Most important of which is speed.
