Thanks!  That's a relatively short section, so I guess I must have missed
it (or not understood it) on the first read.

I must say it's kind of a clever idea.  I've written snippets of code
many times that would be replaced by one of those ranges.

From the discussion, I assume ruby borrowed this from perl which maybe
borrowed it from AWK (or I guess matz could have borrowed it directly
from AWK and cut out the middle man)?
