Use closures and class scopes:

class Foo
   tmp1 = ExpensiveObject.new
   tmp2 = ExpensiveObject.new

   define_method :c1 do
     # stuff involving tmp1/tmp2
     result = tmp1 + tmp2 + c2
   end
end

class Foo
   tmp1 = ExpensiveObject.new
   tmp2 = ExpensiveObject.new

   define_method :c2 do
     # stuff involving tmp1/tmp2
     result = tmp1 + tmp2
   end
end
