Why don't more step up to the plate? I also saw > that Matz had to remove the language comparisons link from > www.ruby-lang.org. Hit a nerve? ;-). I'm very interested in language comparisons, but as the Eckel page and the recent Slashdot posting show, such comparisons often turn into flame wars. The progress of Ruby has little to gain from pissing matches; intellectual curiosity will draw people in, and the quality of the language will be the ultimate persuader. IMO matz was right in taking the language comparison down. It hit a nerve (though not with matz), and it seems that anything that says "Ruby is better" on a Ruby site will strike many people as boasting, or an invitation to a fight. Ultimately this is a shame because it makes it that much harder to talk about these things. James
