Sadly this problem annoys people on many lists. I often observed it,
especially on lists with many Outlook/Exchange-users. :-(

Gnus is correctly showed 19451 to be an answer to 19449? Or just as
belonging to the same thread?

There is already an X-Mail-Count header.
