No, you are not brain dead.  I too am just starting to learn Tk
and superficially it is non-intuitive.  However, the Python site
has some links to Python/Tk that, if you explore, you will find
some OK docs on Tk written for Python that are useful for
understanding the Tk philosophy and contain lists of widget
options, etc.  Also, in the Programming Ruby book (also online)
is a short overview on Ruby/Tk.  I have, on the advice of the
book's authors, also ordered Perl/Tk handbook.  Good Luck.
