Yes, I've seen libgdome-ruby.
No, they're not the same, but they're very related.

libgdome uses libxml2 in their native 'C' implementation.
libgdome-ruby shields the libxml2 part from the user.

My extension ruby-libxml2 exposes libxml2 to Ruby.
I'll probably pick up libxslt (http://xmlsoft.org/XSLT) too...
