Yes, there is an application called rb2c
(http://easter.kuee.kyoto-u.ac.jp/~hiwada/ruby/rb2c) in the RAA
(Ruby Application Archive http://www.ruby-lang.org/en/raa.html)
written by Kazuhiro HIWADA.

Caveats:

1) It works only with Ruby 1.4.x (specifically, it doesn't work with Ruby
	1.6.x)
2) The resulting code links to the Ruby lib; the result is that most
applications won't see a speed improvement and the executables are
	rather large

It worked pretty well for me on Linux, and I may end up using it on AIX to
distribute a scriptlet.
