FWIW personally I *like* the numbering. :-)

It is the oly way I can be *assued* that everyting is kept in order. This is 
the only mail list/newsgroup out of several dozens I (try to) follow where I 
can have that assurance seamlessly and without my involvement.

In addition, the ones here who reference by the numbers are to be praised; it 
make it very easy to catch up. :-)
