this would probably be handier for newbies (AND a lot of work for the
authors :) , but in the reference section of 'programming ruby' an
indication of 'compatibility'. ie. which platform a particular method is
available on.

it would be great for ensuring a cross platform program.

i've been working in ruby now for about a month on the linux side. mainly
using curses (working on a rudimentory pulldown menu system). i took an
early version of the code to the windows side (finally installed ruby
there) and on firing up the program i got something along the lines of
'cygwin error: unable to open term'

is curses is one of those things that doesn't work properly on windows?
