You could still use the NUMBER$ syntax of printf. That is less convenient
as the fields are numbered rather than named:

print "%2$s is after %1$s\n" % ["one", "two"]
	==> two is after one

print "%1$s is before %2$s\n" % ["one", "two"]
	==> one is before two
