I'm pretty sure this series is sorted (at least on Linux +
FreeBSD) And with [PATCH 3/5] probably won't break on Win32
(does it have SIGCHLD?).  At least I tried to make it
easy-to-fix for win32 maintainers.

I plan to squash patches 1-3 before committing, and separate out 4 and 5
