OK, but be careful with over-using memalign, it can cause more
fragmentation.

Yes, and overall syscall overhead.

Also, I think TRANSIENT_HEAP_ALLOC_MAX should be dynamic or
even unlimited (SSIZE_MAX) to work well with strings.
