Well, Ruby is already on github (see https://github.com/ruby/ruby), and 
many developers already use git (not me yet :-). See e.g.

This article mentions "moving Python repositories from Mercurial to 
GitHub". I guess the situation for Python (Mercurial) is different from 
the situation for Ruby (svn/redmine).
