Issue #10710 has been updated by Eric Wong.

 > The compilation of a given source file fails as soon as the compiler
 > needs to emit some warning:

 Right, but ./configure detects that failure, disables the
 -Wno-packed-bitfield-compat switch, and the rest of the build continues
 without it, right?

Bug #10710: can't compile ruby 2.2.0 with gcc versions older than 4.4.0
https://bugs.ruby-lang.org/issues/10710#change-50841

* Author: Stefan Kaes
* Status: Open
* Priority: Normal
* Assignee: Nobuyoshi Nakada
* Category: build
* Target version:
* ruby -v: 2.2.0
* Backport: 2.0.0: UNKNOWN, 2.1: UNKNOWN, 2.2: UNKNOWN
----------------------------------------
compilation stops because gcc before 4.4.0 does not support the flag -Wno-packed-bitfield-compat.
