Any solution would be fine with me.  :)

Thanks to your finding a solution for Dir.entries, it seems
we are approaching nearly 100% unicode path capability for
win32!


Do you anticipate it will be difficult to reach a decision
regarding:

  result = Dir.pwd(:encoding => "UTF-8")
vs.
  result = Dir.pwd("UTF-8")
vs.
  (some other way)

?
