Currently, it seems that if I run
./configure --prefix=3D/nonexisting_directory && make && make check

I get

EEEEEEE............................................................EEEEEEEE=
EEEEEE.....................................................................=
...........................................................................=
..........................................sh:
/fake/bin/ruby: No such file or directory
.sh: /fake/bin/ruby: No such file or directory
F.......................................sh: /fake/bin/ruby: No such
file or directory
F........EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE..EE.EEEEEE.EE..................................=

re: "No such file or directory": I wonder if this is a bug, to
[apparently] require that the distribution be installed before make
check can run successfully?

I also get a lot of soap errors with "unable to bind to port." -- any
thoughts on what might be going on there? [all those E's on the last
line].
Thanks much.
