I reported a similar bug about 2 or 3 months ago.  The problem seemed to go
away for a few days, then I encountered it two more times.  I have talked to
another member of #ruby-lang, and he has corroborated my findings.  This bug
occurs in programs that manipulate a lot of string data.  Previously, this
occurred with my IRC bot.  Now, it's happening in a data storage app (the data
is serialized with YAML and then stored with libdb4.1-ruby1.8)

I compiled ruby from CVS and with a "1.9" suffix to differentiate it from what
Debian had installed.
