The problem seemed to go away for a few days, then I encountered it two more times. I have talked to another member of #ruby-lang, and he has corroborated my findings. This bug occurs in programs that manipulate a lot of string data. Previously, this occurred with my IRC bot. Now, it's happening in a data storage app (the data is serialized with YAML and then stored with libdb4.1-ruby1.8) I compiled ruby from CVS and with a "1.9" suffix to differentiate it from what Debian had installed. /usr/lib/ruby/1.8/yaml.rb:39: [BUG] rb_gc_mark(): unknown data type 0x0(0x401aec08) non object ruby 1.8.1 (2003-12-04) [i686-linux] /home/xsdg/usr/bin/ruby: line 1: 20538 Aborted /usr/local/bin/ruby1.9 -I/usr/local/lib/site_ruby/1.8 -I/usr/local/lib/site_ruby/1.8/i386-l inux -I/usr/lib/ruby/1.8 -I/usr/lib/ruby/1.8/i386-linux $* and After 1.8.1 packages were in Debian /usr/lib/ruby/1.8/yaml/rubytypes.rb:315: [BUG] Segmentation fault ruby 1.8.1 (2003-12-27) [i386-linux] Aborted Please, please, please make this nightmare go away. I've been running intot since 1.6.8. -- | A problem is a chance for you to do your best. | | -- Duke Ellington | ) http://www.cuodan.net/~xsdg/ xsdg / freenode.org ( --NzB8fVQJ5HfG6fxh Content-Type: application/pgp-signature; name="signature.asc" Content-Description: Digital signature Content-Disposition: inline -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v1.2.3 (GNU/Linux) iD8DBQFAAorZLa8oArNOsUERAgNsAJ9/4iVLqDr3Al0g4b5RdnW2yVzpMACZAQWX hxEjoniZc7GJz9WHJW9FEZE X7 -----END PGP SIGNATURE----- --NzB8fVQJ5HfG6fxh--
